When Doug Baldwin stepped away from the Seahawks, we were all concerned about who would step up. Tyler Lockett has been the man, but he’s not the only one.

The Seahawks lost one of their best receivers ever when Doug Baldwin had to step away from the game this off-season. Happily, Seattle didn’t lose one of their best human beings as Baldwin has just moved on to the next stage of fighting the good fight. His absence created a huge void for the Hawks, though. Who would step in for Angry Doug? As we know, Tyler Lockett has absolutely been that man. Just as important, other players have stepped up as well to fill Lockett’s former role.

DK Metcalf continues to stun opposing defenses in his rookie season. He torched the Rams on a 40-yard bomb from Russell Wilson. It was his second touchdown of the season and his third catch for over 40 yards. Metcalf definitely needs to continue to work on his game. His catch rate has dropped precipitously since his sparkling debut against the Bengals. The Rams game was the first time he caught more than half his targets in a month. Still, he shows every sign of fulfilling the promise he showed in camp this summer.

Jaron Brown has solidified his place as the Seahawks number three receiver. That is, as long as you don’t count tight end Will Dissly. But we’re talking about wide receivers here, not the guy who is on his way to becoming the best tight end in Seahawks history. There’s no doubt Brown was woefully underused by the Seahawks last year. Which was crazy since he scored on all six of his chances in the red zone. So far Brown has only been targeted twice in that situation. He converted one for a first down while the other fell incomplete. He’ll get his chances. Brown already has eight catches in 2019 after getting just 14 in all of 2018.

David Moore has bounced back nicely from an injury that cost him the first two weeks of the season. The receiver room is pretty crowded with talent, so the Seahawks aren’t pushing things too much with him. So far Moore has two targets in each of his three games and has converted those into three catches and a score. As the season continues I expect Seattle will call his number more often. I resisted the easy pun there; you’re welcome.

Next. Ranking Russell Wilson. dark

Tyler Lockett has done more than hold his own as the Seahawks new number one receiver. He’s certainly exceeded our expectations, and they were pretty high. But without his teammates stepping up their games, it certainly wouldn’t be enough. As much as we miss Angry Doug, the Seahawks wide receiver room is in good shape.
