“Best football play I’ve ever seen”

Coach Carroll had high praise for the second-year wideout, DK Metcalf, after the thrilling defeat. In the second quarter, DK Metcalf took over the Twitter world with his freakish athleticism. Within 10 yards of the end zone, Wilson attempted to hit Carson on a flat route. He softly floated the ball so it wouldn’t get batted down at the line of scrimmage, but he did not see Cardinals S Budda Baker, who made a play on the ball. It appeared as if Baker was going to take this the other way for a house call. Until he saw Metcalf chasing him from behind on the big screen.

Metcalf hit a top speed of 22 MPH, covering over 90 yards. After Metcalf made that tackle, the Seahawks defense stopped the Cardinals 4 straight times and forced a turnover on downs. Although the Seahawks did not win the game, that was the play of the night. That is a game-saving type play. That is a championship style play.

Pete Carroll is all about competition. During the week at practice, Wednesdays are known as “Competition Wednesdays”. Carroll wants his guys to be just as competitive as him. Last night, Metcalf displayed his freakish ability in chasing down Budda Baker. Week after week, Metcalf displays his fearless mentality as it seems as if he doesn’t allow anything to bother him mentally.

Metcalf didn’t have the best game last night as he only had 2 catches, but he had a tremendous impact in ways a box score can never represent. Ironically, Metcalf would have had the game-winning touchdown if it wasn’t for a holding call. Although it was a hold by David Moore, Metcalf did deserve to score the game-winning touchdown.

Regardless, if the Seahawks do end up winning the Super Bowl, they will back at this play as one of the defining plays of the season. I love the effort Metcalf plays with. I love the mentality he plays with.

Also, on a quick side note, it was fun to see his teammate, Bruce Irvin, pick fun at him on Twitter.

Mr. Irvin does have a point. At this point, DK can wear whatever he wants to cause he backs it all up on the field.
