Defensive end Melvin Ingram III

No team can have enough pass rushers. Disruptive an opposing quarterback’s rhythm and therefore the opposing offense as a whole is a way to win a lot of football games. Seattle’s defense improved greatly once they acquired edge rusher Carlos Dunlap midway through the 2020 season.

Seattle would be making a huge mistake if they thought going into next year that they were set with the pass rushers they currently have on the roster. Dunlap is good and so is Jarran Reed, though Reed is a bit inconsistent. But Seattle doesn’t know what they will get from Darrell Taylor and no other player on the Seattle roster of defensive linemen can truly be called a disruptor at this point.

Melvin Ingram III, though, is a disruptor. According to PFF, Ingram III has ranked in the top 27 of edge rushers for the last three years. He is going to command money but not top dollar. Likely, Ingram III will sign somewhere for around $10 million. That number could even be a bit lower since oddly he didn’t record a sack in 2020 in seven games with the Chargers. He did have 12 pressures, though.

Next. Seahawks need to hire one of these three to be the new OC. dark

Prior to this season, however, Ingram III had 7 or sacks in 5 straight years, including double-digit sacks in 2015 and 2017. The key is that Ingram III does not need to be the Seahawks primary pass rusher, maybe just a good number two or three. Again, a team cannot have enough good pass rushers and Ingram III would add more of that element in Seattle.
