3 Seattle Seahawks who are lucky to still be around in 2022
By Lee Vowell
Kyle Fuller
How Kyle Fuller is still on the team, I have no idea. The Seahawks had the chance to let him go this offseason – he was even non-tendered at one point – and yet brought him back. I am not sure what Seattle’s coaching staff was looking at during the season but it surely wasn’t what the 12s were. Fuller was atrocious.
In 2021, Fuller started the first part of the season at center as Ethan Pocic (seemingly an injury risk on every down) had to miss time. Pocic is gone now as he signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns. Pocic wasn’t that good at his job but looked much better at the end of 2021 for two reasons.
One, he got healthy and knew the offense well enough where he could call out the line adjustments and in the last third of the season (when the season was long over, for all intents and purposes) was pretty good, especially at run-blocking.
Two, he wasn’t Kyle Fuller. Pocic looked like a Pro Bowler compared to Fuller.
Pro Football Focus gave Fuller an overall grade of 46.5 which is really bad. His pass-blocking grade was 31.3. Pocic played 600 snaps and had a grade of 67.3. Austin Blythe, who Seattle signed this offseason, didn’t play much in 2021 but in 2020 had a grade of 69.3 with 1,120 snaps.
Again, Fuller is currently still on the roster while Seattle signed Blythe and let Pocic walk. Surely, by Week 1 of the 2022 season, Kyle Fuller will not be menacing the Seahawks roster.
