Duane Brown

Duane Brown is still a free agent and could somehow end up back in Seattle but then, why? The Seahawks should be committed to its youth movement. Maybe 2022 will be rough at times if Seattle ends up starting two rookie tackles – Charles Cross at left tackle and Abe Lucas at right tackle. But Seattle probably isn’t looking at 2022 as great, but maybe 2023 when Cross and Lucas are better.

No offense to Brown who has been mostly very good since he started playing for Seattle in 2017, but the only way Cross and Lucas get better is by playing a bunch of snaps. Re-signing Brown only squelches Cross and Lucas’s ability to learn and grow.

Also, Brown wasn’t very good in the first half of 2021 when he had allowed 7 sacks midway through the season. By the time Brown improved, the season was sunk. The blame for Seattle’s bad season isn’t all on Brown, of course, but some part of it is.

Brown is still capable of being a good tackle in the NFL. If he wants to play in 2022, he will find a team that wants him. But that team shouldn’t be Seattle because Seattle needs to buy fully into its rebuild.
