Seahawks rival 49ers didn’t exactly make a big splash

But we’re here to talk about our rivals in the NFC West. Let’s start with our most hated/honored rivals, the Niners. They have more question marks remaining than answers in their offseason moves. They did add free agent cornerback Charvarius Ward, who spent his first four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He hasn’t been the most consistent player in the past. His passer ratings allowed, from 2018 through 2021: 124.1, 65.2, 103.1, and 79.4. The Niners obviously hope he’ll break that cycle.

The moves San Francisco hasn’t yet made are far more important. Our friends at Niner Noise – yes they are friends, despite their inexplicable devotion to that franchise – pointed out all the moves the 49ers still must complete to have a truly successful offseason. The first will be familiar to 12s; they have to figure out who their quarterback is going to be.

The big difference with the Niners is that Jimmy G has a cap hit of just under $27 million this year. It isn’t that Garoppolo is bad; it’s that he isn’t worth that contract. The sooner the Niners allocate those funds more judiciously, the better they will be. Not that we want that.

The 49ers haven’t signed the target identified by NinerNoise, center J.C. Tretter, either. And Deebo Samuel still needs to be extended as well. I know,12s, I know; we know all too well the pain of keeping a top wide receiver happy. But the Seahawks added a lot of talent; the Niners added Ward. and very little else. Ummm…I think the Hawks are ahead here.
