San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is back at it. The player was once one of the better ones for the Seattle Seahawks' NFC West rival, but the wideout will likely never play another game for the team in the Bay Area. He might not play another down in the NFL again.
His litany of gripes with the 49ers is long, even after the team gave him a huge contract and the kind of money all players seek. Yet, Aiyuk didn't play in 2025, claiming he was still dealing with a 2024 knee injury. He should now have no injury excuses. He just doesn't want to play for the 49ers. He'd rather be with the Washington Commanders.
This week, however, Aiyuk took another step toward something he is seemingly completely unaware of: He is alienating himself not just with San Francisco, but the entire NFL. This should concern Seahawks fans not because the receiver is a good player, but because he is obviously melting down as a human being, and it's just a terrible thing to watch.
Seattle Seahawks fans might be rightfully concerned about Brandon Aiyuk the human being
Aiyuk's latest complaint is with the NFLPA. In an odd Instagram post that includes 49ers reporter Grant Cohn for some reason, the wideout claims the players' union is attempting a smear campaign against him. He is setting a bad example, of course, because he took his team's money, decided he wouldn't play, and the 49ers took millions of the dollars back.
As difficult as it is to admit from a Seattle point of view, what San Francisco did was correct. Any person, whether it be an athlete or anyone from any other walk of life, who agrees to be paid by an employer needs to honor the terms of the agreement.
The same can be said of an employer respecting an individual who is clearly going above and beyond to help the organization be successful. That isn't Aiyuk.
Brandon Aiyuk appears filled with conspiracy theories, though they are ultimately not helping his cause, whatever that might be on any given day. He didn't play last season, and the 49ers still made the playoffs. San Francisco knows it can win without Aiyuk, and no player is bigger than the team.
He wants to go to the Washington Commanders, specifically, but why would Washington take a chance on Aiyuk when there is no indication he would be happy anywhere for the rest of his career? He is a bomb set to go off at any point and disrupt a team's culture.
That is never going to happen with the Seattle Seahawks, thankfully. The receiver will probably not have that chance with the 49ers, either. San Francisco shouldn't want him anymore because of his attitude towards them, but no other team should want the player either. The worst part about seeing Aiyuk for the human being that he is is that he can't stop hurting himself the most.
