The Seattle Seahawks have been attached by some (even this very site) to New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. This has mostly happened via speculation, of course. The teams aren't going to announce anything official.
That makes the talk a bit more fun. If a move to add the edge rusher happens, great. If not? Well...great. Seattle should be set either way, though one wonders how much head coach Mike Macdonald could improve Thibodeaux's game.
Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Brener has an enticing idea, though. Should the Seahawks make an offer to New York to try to acquire Thibodeaux, general manager John Schneider might not have to offer more than a Day 2 pick in 2027. Seattle has those in spades.

Day 2, of course, consists of rounds two and three. Because the Seahawks lost key free agents this offseason, such as running back Kenneth Walker and edge rusher Boye Mafe, and got comp picks for losing those players, the team has been able to augment how many choices it has next year.
Currently, that number is 12. One each in rounds one and two, but two in round three and four in round five. If all the Giants want is one of those two third-round selections, that would be an easy choice. The third-rounder Seattle takes could become a great player. Thibodeaux has already flashed that ability at the NFL level.
He did dip in form in the last two seasons. In 2023, he had 11.5 sacks, and in the last two years, he had eight total. He has also missed 12 games in the last two seasons. So, yes...he has concerns. One has a feeling his approach to the sport would be vastly different with the Seattle Seahawks compared to the New York football Giants, however.
Kayvon Thibodeaux is entering the final season of his career with the Giants, and New York appears set on replacing the edge rusher. The Giants chose Ohio State's Arvell Reese, for instance, in the first round of the 2026 draft. New York also has other edge rushers it can use should Thibodeaux leave.
The Seahawks have an aging edge rush group, however. A talented one? Sure, but Demarcus Lawrence, the newly signed Dante Fowler, and Uchenna Nwosu will have been 30 years old or older after the 2026 season. Thibodeaux is only 25 years old and should have his best football ahead of him.
Even better, Kayvon Thibodeaux is very good against the run and offers the kind of versatility that Mike Macdonald loves. He would be put to good use for the Seahawks, and it may only take a Day 2 draft pick to add him.
