Packers and Matt LaFleur's meltdown vs. Bears should worry Seahawks fans

Oh...no.

Had the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round, the Seattle Seahawks would have known their next steps in the playoffs. Green Bay would be visiting Lumen Field in the Divisional round. That won't be happening, but that isn't why Seattle might have a new problem.

Green Bay led Chicago entering the fourth quarter 21-6. The troubles were already starting, however, as the Bears were bringing more pressure and head coach Matt LaFleur couldn't adjust his play-calling to allow his offense not to wilt, but wilt they did. While Chicago scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, the Packers managed just six in the entire second half and lost 31-27.

Entering the game, LaFleur's job was in question according to many fans and national pundits, but the team seemed to keep saying he was safe. He shouldn't be. While the head coach has led the Packers to a high level of regular season success, they have been failures in the playoffs. That might be enough to get him fired.

Green Bay Packers' Matt LaFleur's meltdown could open the door for Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak

If that happens, Green Bay giving the Seahawks a call would be logical. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is the hottest name among offensive-minded coaches after the regular season. He has gotten numerous requests to interview for vacant head coaching positions, and the Packers could be the next if they move on from LaFleur.

Kubiak in Green Bay would make a lot of sense, too. He would have a young quarterback to work with and an offense with a lot of potential.

If Seattle's OC is smart, and he certainly appears to be so, he would take over full control of Green Bay's offense and hire a good defensive coordinator. The new DC would be set up for success, especially as injured Micah Parsons will be returning in 2026.

Who knows? The Seahawks and Packers might even do an unintentional switch. Klint Kubiak could become the head coach in Green Bay, and Matt LaFleur, as long as he doesn't get a head coach opportunity, could become the offensive coordinator with the Seahawks.

Still, in a best-case scenario, the Seattle Seahawks would be able to hold on to Kubiak. He has been a terrific fit with head coach Mike Macdonald, and would continue to be so. In reality, Kubiak will likely be a head coach soon, and that might even be with the Green Bay Packers.
