DK Metcalf pulls in a perfect catch for Seahawks versus Dolphins
Seahawks' veteran wide receiver DK Metcalf showed elite skill on a critical catch on the Seattle Seahawks second drive against the Dolphins. Geno Smith showed how much confidence he has in the six-year vet.
Despite his incredible physical gifts, DK Metcalf has always played a bit in the shadow of teammate Tyler Lockett. Year after year, Lockett has a higher catch percentage and a lower drop rate. When it comes to crunch time, it's usually Lockett who gets the call when the Hawks need a big catch.
After Seattle was held to a field goal on their first drive, they mounted a solid drive on their second series. The Hawks sandwiched a Geno Smith to Noah Fant's 11-yard connection with a pair of nice runs by Zach Charbonnet. That set up Seattle at the Miami 26. Geno Smith knew just where to go.
The Seattle Seahawks DK Metcalf showed elite body control with this huge catch
This close to the end zone, this is often the time for Tyler Lockett to shine. Geno Smith was under heavy pressure from the Dolphins pass rush. Normally, Smith would either throw the ball away or look for Lockett to make one of his miraculous toe-tapping sideline catches. This is an even more confident edition of Geno Smith, though.
So instead of throwing the ball away, he looked for his most athletic target. Dolphins corner Kendall Fuller covered Metcalf like he was working a Sherwin-Williams store. No worries, though. The 6'4" Metcalf soared above Fuller's reach to pull in a perfectly placed ball from Geno Smith. Even better, he gave his best impression of Lockett and dropped his toes within the sideline to complete the big 22-yard play.
The Seahawks would score on the next play to take a 10-0 lead over the Dolphins. Seattle's offense has been in high gear for most of the game. No one has played a bigger role in that than DK Metcalf.
