Fan-favorite Nick Bellore returns but not with the Seahawks
By Lee Vowell
Nick Bellore will be missed. Maybe not as much by the Seattle Seahawks team, though that is possible, as much by 12s. He was a great interview, fantastic in the locker room, and his Between Two Bellores series on Seahawks (dot) com was hilarious. To be sure, Bellore was also an excellent special teams player and even made the Pro Bowl for that in 2023.
If the fullback/linebacker/special teamer is going to continue his series, he will need to do so with the Washington Commanders. Washington signed Bellore to the practice squad on Monday. Chances are that he will be elevated a few times during the season. If one had a logical guess, there is a great likelihood that he will wind up on the active roster at some point as well.
During his time with Seattle, Bellore was known to do anything possible to help his team. He wasn't great at anything (other than special teams), but he wasn't bad at anything either. Stick him in at linebacker, at least in the preseason, and he could bring down ball-carriers. As a fullback, he didn't mind hitting an opposing defender and trying to force him back to wherever he came from.
Former Seahawks fan-favorite Nick Bellore signs with the Washington Commanders
That was a big reason he was a fan-favorite with the Seahawks. He played with passion and ferocity and celebrated after a big hit. He was team-first and clearly just enjoyed playing football. His downfall in Seattle wasn't his performance on the field but because his contract got a bit bloated for a player who is a specialist in the third phase of the game.
He is also the kind of guy that 12s might pull for even though he is wearing a different uniform. Washington obviously appreciated what Bellore might be able to bring to their franchise. Dan Quinn is the Commanders' new head coach, and he was the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks in 2013 and 2014, but he has no obvious ties to Bellore. Quinn just liked the way Bellore played.
Still, Bellore is only on the practice squad for now and maybe he does not play. Ideally, he might find his way back to wearing a Seahawks uniform, but that seems like a pipedream.
