Who and when the Seattle Seahawks play preseason games in 2023
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks regular season was announced and we did our best to give predictions. But we might learn a lot about the roster from the preseason schedule. And almost shockingly, Seattle doesn't play the Las Vegas Raiders.
OK, that was a bit of a joke about the Raiders. It just seems like Seattle used to play the Raiders every single year in the preseason. That was fine once the teams weren't in the same conference. I point this out because Seattle's preseason foes this year might be a bit of an issue.
This preseason, Seattle will play only fellow NFC teams. Sure, the teams will be fairly vanilla in scheme, but that doesn't mean if these teams meet in the postseason that the other team won't have an idea what individual players can do. I don't mean Geno Smith and Tyler Lockett; There's enough tape on those guys. But younger guys like Devon Witherspoon and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, most definitely.
Seahawks 2023 preseason schedule
Week 1 - At Lumen Field versus the Minnesota Vikings
There's no pressure for 12s in the preseason. If the team wins or loses, it's not a huge deal. Of course, it's always nice to win, but the games are meaningless. That said, this will be the first time we get to see most of the rookies (because probably not all will play) go up against a team with a different jersey than their own, so that will be fun.
All of the preseason games' dates and times are still to be announced and we won't learn much about whether either team is good or bad in the regular season. We could learn, however, if some of the rookies, like cornerback Witherspoon, are truly ready to make an immediate impact at the start of the season.
Week 2 - At Lumen Field versus the Dallas Cowboys, August 19th at 7 pm PT
There used to be four games in the preseason for each team, but now just three. I point that out because we used to see presumed starters a lot more in game three of the four game set than in any other game. Now, if fans do get to see the starters much, it's likely in game two of preseason. So Seahawks fans wanting to watch Geno Smith and company, this might be the game.
Week 3 - At Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, August 26th at 10 am PT
This game might be interesting because the Packers will have a new starting quarterback, assumed to be Jordan Love, and he might get a lot more reps than most presumed starting quarterbacks in the preseason. Love needs practice. Whether he faces Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen remains to be seen.
