Seahawks could replace Geno Smith with Drew Lock

One of the future replacements for Smith could be his own backup, Drew Lock. Lock would be a true project player for Seattle, as he's already going into his 4th year in the NFL, and hasn't really shown the ability to be a franchise QB up to this point. But as mentioned earlier, Lock was considered the favorite for the starting job in Seattle until Smith had his breakout season.

Lock has always had the tools to be a successful quarterback, possessing excellent arm strength. Despite having a great arm his decision-making has always been poor, as in his first entire season starting in Denver, he had 16 passing touchdowns and a whopping 15 interceptions.

However, Lock would show out in his first action since the QB competition last year, showing serious promise. Also, in the Seahawks' first preseason game of 2023 against the Vikings, he went 17 of 24 for 191 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. He looked the most comfortable he's ever looked, but we also can't ignore the fact that he was playing against a lot of guys who are fighting for a roster spot, not a starting job.

Although sticking with Lock would be an interesting choice, it could be one that Carroll's familiar with. He's given multiple second chances to players and tries developing them under his own culture. It might not be the choice with the highest upside, but if Carroll has faith, Seahawks fans have reason to trust their coach.
