The Seattle Seahawks should hold bragging rights over most teams in the National Football League right now. Of course, that includes their fellow NFC West divisional rivals, and especially the Los Angeles Rams.
Mike Macdonald got the best of Sean McVay twice last season, including in the NFC Championship Game. However, while the Seahawks ultimately got the job done, the Rams were arguably their toughest rival.
That's why they must keep a close eye on every single move general manager Les Snead makes, whether it's minor or major. Moreover, that's also why they can only hope the rumors about them adding another pass catcher to the mix are just hearsay.
The Seattle Seahawks can only hope the Rams don't add another weapon
According to Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, the Rams could still add another veteran wide receiver to the mix. Even more worryingly, they could re-ignite their pursuit of Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown.
"If the Rams don't reengage with the Eagles and acquire Brown, they should look to add a veteran like Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, or DeAndre Hopkins to their receiver room," wrote Knox.
The New England Patriots' interest in trading for Brown is the league's worst-kept secret, and both teams may have even agreed to terms on a deal. That said, nothing is official until it's actually done, so technically, the Rams could rejoin the race at any point.
Even if that's not the case, giving Matthew Stafford another weapon is a scary thought for the rest of the division. Keenan Allen and DeAndre Hopkins might both be way beyond their primes, but they still have reliable hands and are proven threats in the red zone. As for Stefon Diggs, he's fresh off a 1,000-yard season with the Patriots.
The Rams already have a solid one-two punch in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, plus a plethora of pass-catching tight ends. Add a bright offensive play-caller and designer like McVay and a future Hall of Fame quarterback into the mix, and that's a recipe for trouble.
Of course, the Seahawks should love their chances against anyone. They should be considered the team to beat in the league until proven otherwise, and they have a stacked secondary to keep up with even the most talented pass catcher corps.
However, the only thing that's more challenging than winning a Super Bowl is going back-to-back. The Seahawks will have a huge target on their backs from Week 1, and everybody will be aiming at their crown.
The Rams will host the Super Bowl at So-Fi Stadium, and given this team's history of aggressive maneuvers, they must have another big move up their sleeve. The Seahawks can't afford to get complacent now, and they should have more than enough money to make a corresponding move of their own if their toughest rival adds more firepower to their roster.
Their three meetings from last season all went down to the wire and were settled by one possession, and they will be a team to keep a close eye on.
