The Seattle Seahawks are going to try to win by having a great defense. The offense needs to be efficient, eat up clock, and not turn the ball over. But the defense? That unit needs to dominate.
Most things that Seattle has done this offseason have pointed to the fact that general manager John Schneider wants to remake the Legion of Boom, but in the image of head coach Mike Macdonald. Unfortunately, Seattle got rid of its long-term quarterback and two long-term wide receivers, while the offensive line remained the same.
The defense stayed primarily intact and added defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. But could Seattle do even more to ensure the defense operates at peak rage? Possibly, but not with a certain player.
Seahawks have good odds to add Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt
The player in question is Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt. According to the 33rd Team's Marcus Mosher, the Seahawks have the second-best odds (4/1) of landing Watt in a trade. We assume Mosher means a team must trade for the elite edge rusher because Watt is currently signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers through 2025.
Maybe Mosher is simply tweeting about Watt's potential free agency fits in 2026, as he was not specific about when Watt's "next team" would become just that. But the writer could be on to something as well.
Watt posted on his Instagram page (shared here via Mark Kaboly, a Steelers beat reporter) a photo of him in a Steelers uniform making a peace sign with his right hand. People also use that symbol when saying goodbye. Watt was likely intentionally cryptic to get attention, which is somewhat sad, but maybe he had a meaning behind the gesture.
Trading Watt would be an extremely un-Steelers move, though. Pittsburgh does not make a habit of dealing its best players prior to their contracts expiring. In fact, Pittsburgh's shocking trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf was because the Steelers do not do that kind of thing either.
Anything is possible, especially if the Seahawks give Pittsburgh a first-round draft pick in return for Watt. Plus, the teams have already worked on one surprising deal this offseason, so why not two? The difference is that the Steelers are probably not willing to ship away a player, but rather bring one in.
However, it is fun to think of how good a Seahawks defense would be with T.J. Watt. A pass rush consisting of Leonard Williams. Lawrence, Watt, Boye Mafe, Jarran Reed, Uchenna Nwosu, and Derick Hall would be the best in the league. It might make the Seahawks dangerous enough to make a deep playoff run.
