The Seattle Seahawks brought back Drew Lock to serve as Sam Darnold's backup. While he hasn't always done well as a starter, he's the type of seasoned veteran who could keep the ship afloat if something were to happen to the No. 1 guy. That's why any potential Lock trade to the New York Giants to replace Jaxson Dart should be a firm no from Seattle.
Lock barely took a snap in 2025, but he's earning every penny now. The Seahawks are 2-0 with him at the helm while Darnold recovers from a glute injury, and he may have earned himself a big contract next offseason.
It wouldn't be much of a surprise to see the Giants try to get their hands on him in the wake of Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury. That's also precisely why the Seahawks should hang up on them as soon as they get the call.
Drew Lock deserves another chance, but the Seattle Seahwaks can't let him go
Lock already knows what it's like to play in the Big Apple. He spent the 2024 season with the Giants, making eight appearances (five starts) and completing 107 of 181 passes for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns, and one pick. He went 1-7 overall and 1-4 as a starter.
Plenty has transpired since. His two years back in Seattle have helped him mature and be more in control, take fewer risks, and realize that he doesn't need to go for the home run on every dropback. With John Harbaugh and an improved set of weapons, he would be the perfect guy to keep the Giants' season alive.
However, as much as the Seahawks would get a solid return for his services, this game is about much more than asset management. If anything, Darnold's absence has shown just how crucial it is to have someone to lean on when things get tough.
Jalen Milroe isn't ready, not in the slightest. He looked like the same erratic passer who relied way too much on his legs and athleticism in the preseason, and he's not much more than a gadget player at this point in his development, maybe ever.
Even if the Giants come calling and offer a Day 2 selection for Lock's services, the risk vastly outweighs the benefit. The Seahawks dodged a big bullet with Darnold, but there's no telling whether he'll be back to his usual level or if he'll be banged up or limited.
This roster and coaching staff have proven that they can hold their own with their defense and strong running game, but the quarterback still plays the most crucial role in team sports. Lock is more than likely to walk away in free agency, but he won't leave this team empty-handed; he's already given them more than they could've asked for.
