Monday was an important day in NFL free agency. The reason is that the Seattle Seahawks and every other team can sign available players and not have those players count against the comp formula in the 2027 NFL draft. If Seattle is going to make a splashy move, now is the time.
Make no mistake that general manager John Schneider really wants to keep a high number of selections next year. The draft is expected to be deep but with a bunch of high-end talent, especially compared to this year's draft.
But Schneider also doesn't want to slip from last year's Super Bowl-winning form. While the team doesn't have a bunch of glaring roster holes, edge rusher might still need to be addressed. The team didn't take one in the 2026 draft, and Schneider implied after the draft that signing a free agent edge rusher is still a possibility.
Seattle Seahawks could act now to sign a free agent edge rusher
The Seahawks have a lot of different ways they could go if they do sign a free agent. One move that wouldn't be surprising is the team signing Dante Fowler, for instance. He has already visited Seattle. Other options are available, too, however.
Von Miller
Miller is 37 years old and certainly not a long-term option at the position. That doesn't matter. What does matter is whether Miller can be productive in 2026 and help offset the loss of Boye Mafe in free agency. All signs point to Miller being able to do that.
While 2025 was his first fully healthy season since 2018, he has produced when he's been available. Last season for the Washington Commanders, Miller had nine sacks and 15 quarterback hits. He's also better in run support than many expect him to be.
Like with everyone on this list and Dante Fowler, should any of them be signed, John Schneider isn't going to overpay. If Miller accepts $7 million a season or less, he could be the guy to replace Mafe for at least one year.
Joey Bosa
Bosa's issue is that he has a fairly brutal injury history. In the last two seasons, though, he hasn't missed more than three games in either season. Bosa's raw statistics have diminished somewhat, though, as he has only had five sacks in each of the past two years. He did make the Pro Bowl in 2024.
He might also be too one-dimensional for Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald, too. Bosa isn't awful against the run, but he is certainly a much better pass rusher than the former. He's also a back tackler (he missed 33.3 percent of his tackle attempts in 2025), so his ability to set a hard edge against the run might be in question.
Still, his upside to chase down quarterbacks is a huge draw. Because of that trait, another team might offer Bosa more than Schneider is comfortable with, and that is ultimately the bottom line.
Haason Reddick
Reddick is the most questionable player here. He was once an elite pass rusher, but in the last two seasons, he's struggled. The question the Seattle Seahawks might be asking themselves is whether Mike Macdonald can get the best out of Reddick for at least one season.
He did have 34 total pressures for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2025, though his trend of missing tackles continued. For his career, he has whiffed on 15.9 percent of his tackle attempts. He's also rather poor against the run.
Depending on his price tag, though, Seattle might still think about bringing him in. He might be a solid fit with veterans Uchenna Nwosu and DeMarcus Lawrence. All that said, Von Miller would probably be a better choice.
