Trey McBride is a very good tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, but Seattle Seahawks fans likely know that better than those who live in the Phoenix area. That's because Arizona has one of the worst fanbases in sports, and not just the NFL. McBride deserves better.
He knows it, too. Speaking on a recent episode of Bussin' with the Boys, McBride said of playing home games in Arizona, "It’s like, living in Arizona, everyone — no one’s from Arizona. Everyone comes and has moved in from another state. So, they’re all fans of their own teams. So, now you have the Arizona that sits there, and there’s no Arizona fans in Arizona."
But McBride didn't keep his thoughts about the Seahawks to himself either. And he might be a little jealous of what the organization in the Pacific Northwest has to offer. That isn't meant to be disparaging of the tight end, either; he might truly be jealous.
Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride speaks his truth about the Seattle Seahawks
He offered that he very much dislikes playing at Lumen Field because it is so loud. Moreover, the team's defense is so good that it is difficult to play, especially in Seattle, and once the defense makes a good play, they let the other team know about it.
While some sites might report that what McBride said about the Seahawks was hateful. That isn't true. He was glowing in his praise of the team, though in a slightly odd way. Would he rather play for a winner instead of his current team? He won't say that, but he might not need to.
On the recent podcast, McBride said, "(Lumen Field is) a tough place to play. Their defense is a bunch of s*** talkers, and they have a really good team too, so I feel like every time we go to Seattle it's such a hostile environment. Lumen Field is such a cool place to play, and they've gotten the best of us the last couple times, so it'd be nice to get back on the winning side for sure."
To be clear, the Seattle Seahawks haven't just "gotten the best" of the Arizona Cardinals in the last two games. Arizona hasn't beaten Seattle, no matter the city or venue, since November 21, 2021. That is nearly five years ago, and that is definitely nine straight Seahawks wins ago. Also of note, the last time Arizona beat Seattle was a season before Trey McBride began his career.
Again, this isn't about McBride being rude (he wasn't) or talking trash (he wasn't). He was simply paying respect to the Seahawks, a team that has beaten his own time and time again. That is the kind of respect that is due. Maybe McBride will be able to end his misery soon, however. Perhaps he will get traded to Seattle eventually.
