Checking In On A Few Seahawk Predictions I Made
By Keith Myers
Here at 12th Man Rising, we’re not afraid to make prediction. In fact, it’s part of the fun. But with predictions comes the chance that you’ll be horribly wrong, and that people with throw that prediction back in you face. Again, that’s part of the fun. I’ve never been afraid to be wrong, and I usually am.
Back in February, I made 5 predictions about what will happen in free agency, and I thought it would be fun to see how I did:
"1) At least one of the team’s top priorities to be re-signed (Lynch, Robinson, Hawthorne, Bryant) wont return."
It turns out I was right on this one. Hawthorne is now a member of the Saints. Of course, I cheated a bit by not saying which of the 4 wouldn’t re-sign.
"2) The Seahawks sign a player that most Seattle fans have never heard of, and that player will be a starter."
Um, ya. Clearly this one failed, or at least it appears so at this point. Jason Jones is the closest player to what I was thinking at the time, and he wont be a starter. Barrett Ruud perhaps, but it appears he wont be starting either. Unless Deuce Latui might win the starting LG job, but considering he was a high profile draft pick and played for Arizona, I don’t think he’s someone that most fans have never heard of.
"3) The Seahawks will sign at least 1 big name player."
At the time, I suggested Mario Williams, but I didn’t commit to just him. Does Matt Flynn count? Otherwise, I’m out of luck on this one.
"4) The Seahawks will sign a QB."
Woohoo! I got another one. Matt Flynn. Of course, this prediction wasn’t really going out on limb. If would have seemed like really poor planning to go into the draft with only Jackson and Portis on the roster.
"5) John Carlson and Marcus Trufant won’t be Seahawks in 2012."
Well, I got the John Carlson part right. It looked like I would get the Trufant part correct too, but then he was an unexpected re-sign. While there’s still a chance he might get cut and make this prediction true, that seems like a really small chance at this point. Tru appears to be the #3 corner as of right now.
So that means I got 2 right, and whiffed on 2, and am waiting on the judges to decide if Flynn is a big enough name for the other one. That seems about my normal average. Just barely good enough to not be embarrassing, check and check.
