It might not move the panic needle much in terms of roster needs, but we still have no idea who the Seattle Seahawks punt returner is going to be for the 2015 season. There aren’t even all that many guys on the roster who appear to have the skills to do the job. This is a problem that must be addressed before the draft is over.

Seattle had one of the best punt returners in the NFL back in 2013, but they let Golden Tate walk in free agency a year ago. His replacement was Bryan Walters, who was steady but entirely unspectacular. Now Walters is gone, and there is a major void that the needs to be filled.

While it is easy to write off a punt returner as unimportant, the reality is that they can have a profound impact on the outcome of a game. The difference between a good punt returner and a bad one can lead to a change in almost 10 yards of average starting field position.

Over the course of a season, that can make a huge difference. It can equate a large number of total yards, and a big change in expected points. That is nothing to sneeze at.

So the Seahawks must figure out a plan at the position. They have some options, but most of them aren’t great options at the moment. Here is a look at the in-house, free agent and draft options currently available to become the Seattle Seahawks punt returner.
