Draft Options

The draft is the easiest place to find a punt returner for the Seattle. It is also the most risky. Wide receiver has the lowest success rate of any position in the draft. There are lots of options though. He are a few that will be available at different phases of the draft.

Phillip Dorsett, Florida State – The draft media cannot decide if he is a late first round pick or a third round pick. If he falls to Seattle in round three, this speed demon would a great pickup. Besides having the skills of an elite slot receiver, he also will be an excellent punt returner.

Tyler Lockette, Kansas State – Think of Lockette as a shorter and slightly less athletic version of Dorsett. His lack of height will also mean that he’ll be available later, making him an option for the Seahawks in the 4th round.

Rannell Hall, Central Florida – Hall doesn’t have the speed to take back punts to the end zone, but he does have great hands and the ability to make people miss once he catches the ball. He’d be a very steady returner who will likely be available in the 5th or sixth round.

Mario Alford, Nebraska – If the Seahawks decide to wait until near the end of the draft before drafting someone to add to the punt returner competition, then Alford is is a name to watch for. He’s a short slot receiver in the Wes Welker mold.

While he lacks ideal overall athleticism, his excellent lateral agility will allow him to make the first guy miss and then get upfield; perfect attributes for a punt returner.
