Seahawks rounds 3 and 4

Third round, pick 88

Seahawks chose: Linebacker Cody Barton. Our original grade for Barton was a C+. Yes, a C+! Not that Barton was an extremely impactful player in 2019 but he showed the potential to replace K.J. Wright beside future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner. He started 2 games and played in all 16. For a rookie linebacker, playing coverage snaps can be difficult. But Barton showed the ability to do that well. As far as playing against the run and learning to pressure the quarterback, he seems to have the ability and that will come with more playing time.

Should have chosen: This is where it gets weird. Seattle had traded Frank Clark before the draft and needed edge rushers. As it turns out, the Raiders picked Maxx Crosby is the fourth round and he turned out to be really good with 10 sacks.

Fourth round, pick 120

Seahawks chose: Receiver Gary Jennings Jr. Our original grade on Jennings Jr. was a C. I am glad we didn’t have him as a B or higher.

Should have chosen: Nearly anyone else? Jennings Jr. didn’t even finish out the season with the Seahawks and will never play a down with Seattle. He didn’t work hard and wasn’t worth Seattle taking a pick on. Seattle could have had Hunter Renfrow, another Raiders pick, who had 605 yards receiving last year and caught nearly 70 percent of his targets.

Fourth round, pick 124

Seahawks chose: Guard Phil Haynes. Our original grade of Haynes was a B. I might be the only one saying this, as Haynes didn’t play a game with the Seahawks in 2019, but I think he is going to be a good choice. He is a big, strong guy who can run-block well. Haynes isn’t going to start in 2020, but might in 2021. Long-term, Haynes will be a solid pick. (Come back in a couple of years and laugh at me when you see how wrong I am.)

Should have chosen: Haynes. Again, he didn’t start in 2019, but he wasn’t expected to. If he isn’t starting in 2021, I will eat my Seahawks hat.

Fourth round, pick 132

Seahawks chose: Safety Ugo Amadi. Our original grade of Amadi was a C+. Amadi might have been right at a C for 2019. Honestly, and as every 12 knows, he did not really get the chance to showcase what he could do. He got an early-season start and then basically sat for a long time. Until the end of the season when the Seahawks decided they want to try to use him again. It was too late, though, as Amadi did not have the reps to gain the experience to be good in the playoffs. He still has an excellent chance to start in the slot in 2020.

Should have chosen: Amadi. Seattle was looking to get a slot corner and Amadi might still be that long-term. If I re-draft this class again in three years, I might have a different pick here, though.
