Preseason Schedule Announced
The National Football League has released Seattle’s 2009 preseason opponents. None of the games are set to be nationally televised, and exact dates are to be determined. Coincidentally for the Seahawks, the four preseason opponents are their old rivals from the AFC West. Week 1: August 13-17 AT The Chargers won the last meeting 18-17 in the 2008 preseason. The Seahawks started strong, as Charlie Frye hit Nate Burleson for a 68-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game. The Seahawks, however, were unable to slow 5-foot-8, 181 pound Darren Sproles, and lost a rather close contest. Billy [...]
Draft Analysis On The Way
Alright 12th Man, it is almost April and we’re just weeks away from the 2009 NFL Draft. One of the more intriguing drafts in recent history for Seattle, largely because we hold the fourth overall selection. Back in February, I promised a mock draft. I have yet to live up to that promise, but I’ll guarantee one soon. However, before I attempt to predict what will happen on draft day, I was going to analyze Tim Ruskell and try to identify tendencies or interesting statistics. Initially, I looked at Tim Ruskell’s tendencies (Looking Ahead to the Draft) and what types [...]
Evaluating Tim Ruskell
How would you grade Tim Ruskell’s ability to draft up to this point? Next month’s draft will be Ruskell’s fifth as general manager of the Seahawks, so there is enough information to effectively evaluate his performance thus far. Every fan has their own way of judging draft success; it may be judged by individual achievements (Pro Bowls, etc.), overall team success, or possibly even player popularity. I’ve decided to try and evaluate Ruskell and his draft classes by a different technique: contribution. It isn’t a perfect formula for draft success because there may be a lot of ambiguity and room [...]
Biggest Draft Bust: Championship Results
Nice release, Dan. With the sixteenth pick in the 1991 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select Dan McGwire, quarterback, San Diego State. Oh boy. Nearly eighteen years later, he is officially crowned the biggest draft bust in Seattle Seahawks history by 12th Man Rising. McGwire edged fellow Seahawks quarterback bust Rick Mirer 68% to 32%. Both players will move on to FanSided’s Worst Man Drafted tournament, which features 64 of the biggest busts ever in a NCAA-style tournament bracket. Dan McGwire, a 5 seed, draws defensive end Shante Carver in the first round. Rick Mirer was seeded 8 in his [...]
VOTE: Biggest Draft Bust, Championship
Biggest Draft Bust, Championship The field has narrowed down to two: Rick Mirer and Dan McGwire. Mentioning either name will make a Seahawks fan anywhere cringe. Equally nauseating and both dreadful, who is the bigger bust? Cast your votes – I’ll be out of town until next week, so the poll will be up through the weekend. Rick Mirer was the second overall selection in the 1993 NFL Draft, preceded by Drew Bledsoe as the first choice. The quarterback from Notre Dame was supposed to be the next Joe Montana, but that couldn’t have been any further from reality. In [...]
Weaver Signs With Philadelphia
Leonard Weaver has agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. The deal is reportedly worth $1.5 million, but incentives could push it closer to $2.5 million. From what I’ve heard, Weaver was asking for a deal worth between $2.5 and $3 million, and the market never developed for him like he expected. He should be a good fit in Philadelphia, although it will be interesting to see what role he’ll play in their offense; the Eagles rarely used a fullback last season. I would’ve loved to see Weaver back in Seattle, but the Seahawks probably made the wise [...]

Redding: A Detroit Perspective
After each major acquisition this off-season, I’ve posted entries featuring commentary from other bloggers. For Colin Cole, DJ from Lombardi Ave offered his opinion, and after we signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bryan Burke from Bengals Gab submitted his perspective. Now that we’ve acquired Cory Redding from the Detroit Lions, I’ve reached out to Lions blogger Sean Yuille for his perspective on the defensive lineman. Although a lot of us have heard more about Redding by now, he still remains somewhat anonymous in the Pacific Northwest. Sean Yuille blogs for Pride of Detroit, an unofficial Detroit Lions blog, and was kind enough [...]
