With the recent whirlwind that has been the NFL offseason, along with the recent college football recruiting scandals, it got me thinking about Coach Pete Carroll and how I don’t trust a dang thing that comes out of his mouth. Let me tell you why. 1) Sketchy to begin with. He magically appeared as the Seahawks’ head coach right as the USC recruiting scandal started hitting the fan. Does this mean he is guilty or a horrible person? No, of course not, but it may tell us something about Pete and his willingness to throw his boys to the [...]
*This is an abridged version of a full-length article available through Amazon.com In the face of fan dissention, the Seattle Seahawks are holding their ground on Tarvaris Jackson starting over Charlie Whitehurst when the regular season starts. In an ESPN Sports Nation poll, a full two-thirds of respondents felt Whitehurst should be named the starting quarterback. There is a reason why coaches, not fans, make player decisions. Most every preseason a backup quarterback steps up and posts solid performances. They hype gives fans reason to believe their next great QB is about ready to burst onto the scene. The Seahawks [...]
Seattle Seahawks: QB Showdown at Mile High
‘Hawks fans expect to see a very exciting game in Denver this week. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the game will be the quarterback situation for either team. It has been stated that the Seahawks’ Tarvaris Jackson will continue to be the team’s starter. But, keep an eye out for the team’s backup Charlie Whitehurst, as he has a good chance to take over if Jackson slips up one too many times. On the Broncos’ side, all the rage is over Tim Tebow. Win or lose, it seems Tebow remains the fan favorite in Orange Town. Fan favorites aside, [...]
Seahawks “Ring of Honor”
The Seahawks have an interesting way of displaying respect and remembering those who have made contributions to the team. The first person inducted into the ‘Hawks “Ring of Honor” was Steve Largent, in 1989. Largent was a wide receiver for the ‘Hawks from 1976-1989, making contributions such as being the first Seahawk to be invited to the Pro Bowl seven times. The second inductee was Dave Brown, a cornerback from 1976-1986, who set numerous records during his time with the ‘Hawks. The third person inducted to the “Ring of Honor” was Pete Gross, who was not a player, but an announcer. Gross [...]
MORON OF THE GAME: Is Aaron Curry really that dumb? Just because you still play like a rookie doesn’t mean you have to act like one. This guy was supposed to be the “safest” pick in the draft, but here we are three years later, and Curry still looks bad, especially when he’s throwing helmets across the field. I keep trying to find second and third chances for this guy, but I think I just ran out on Saturday. SURPRISE OF THE GAME: Welcome back Leroy Hill. He looked like his old self for the first time in two [...]
Seattle Seahawks: Former Ram Gets Signed
Pregame notes, Vikings
Unfortunately, last week I wasn’t able to catch the first half of action, so I didn’t get a chance to see the starters. Luckily, from the recaps I’ve watched and read, they were fairly underwhelming and the team play was overall forgettable. I was, however, impressed with both the second string offense and defense. Charlie looked pretty good, and the young secondary made some nice plays. Bubble players like Jameson Konz and Jeron Johnson played better than I expected, and KJ Wright displayed impressive leadership at MLB filling in for Hawthorne. I want to see more from Golden Tate. Thomas [...]
This might actually be an exciting game. Well as exciting as preseason gets anyway. It reminds me of that situation when an old girlfriend shows up at a party and you have your new one with you. Sure you pretend like it’s no big deal, say the right things, and carry on about your business as usual. The truth is, however, you want her to see what she missed out on. You try a little harder knowing that she’s watching and listening to your every word. Sometimes she might think, “Now I remember why I left him.” Other times she [...]
Seattle Seahawks Prepare for Second Game
“SEATTLE — Tarvaris Jackson already made his preseason debut with the Seattle Seahawks. Tonight, however, will be the first real chance for Jackson to show what he can do. More importantly, it’s a chance for a drastically overhauled offense to show what it might look like in 2011. While nothing definitive will come out of tonight’s game it will give a lot more clues into what Jackson and this offense will be capable of than it did in last week’s game in San Diego. Against the Chargers, Jackson and most of the offensive starters played only the first two series, and [...]
